Enkidu was an Ancient Mesopotamian homunculus. created by an unknown Tiste to rid Gilgamesh of his arrogance. For several centuries he lives as a wild man, raised by animals and ignorant of human society until he comes across Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk, an encounter which culminated into a wrestling match between both of them. After defeating Gilgamesh the king considers him his one and only equal. Enkidu then becomes the his constant companion and deeply beloved friend, accompanying him on adventures until his natural homunculi life-span deteriorates from the centuries he lived in the wild. The deep, tragic loss of Enkidu profoundly inspires in Gilgamesh a quest to escape death by obtaining immortality, which ultimately proves unsucessful.
